âVanilla, Chocolate, or twist?â Kent asked Summer, who sat on a booster in the backseat of his truck.
âTwist,â She said. And he couldnât help but smile at how clear the word came out. Sure, it was one word, but it was a hard one with the tâs and w.
âOkay, Iâll be right back. Sit tight.â
He got out of the truck and got in line at the walk-up window where he could order the soft-serve ice cream. The place was called Bon Bonâs, and it served your basic burger and fry meals, but most people came for the ice cream. The building looked a tad run down on the outside, but it was a town jewel and always busy. Just like now, when about 10 people were already standing in line ahead of Kent.
The large man in front of Kent shifted slightly, revealing the backside of a woman. A very attractive seeming woman. All dressed up in a summer dress that made her waist look small because of the way it hugged her upper body and belled out from her waistline. The bottom of the dress stopped just above her knees, revealing shapely strong calves that led to her feet which were boosted up by heels.
Kent admired a woman with some muscle on her legs, and he appreciated the talent it took to wear heels on the gravel in front of the walk-up window. It was like watching a trapeze artist walking a tightrope. Completely mesmerizing.
The sundress-wearing woman twisted side to side, swishing the skirt in the cutest way as she waited her turn. A group of motorcyclists revved into the parking lot, and she turned to look, revealing the side profile of none other than Dana.
Kent felt his face get hot. Had he seriously been checking out Dana? And was he seriously blushing because of it?
She turned back toward the front of the line, and they both worked their way closer and closer to the window until it was finally her turn to order. Once she had paid, she turned around to wait, and thatâs when she spotted Kent. Her cheeks flushed up, and Kent felt relief that he wasnât the only one turning red tonight. Though she didnât need to know about his minor snafu.
âHowdy,â he said, tipping his hat in a warm greeting.
Dana blessed him with a sweet smile. âWhereâs Summer?â
He gestured toward his truck that they could both see from their places in front of the business. The truck was still running with air conditioning on. Even though it was evening, outside had yet to fully cool to a completely comfortable temperature.
âCan I go say hi?â She asked.
ââCourse.â
She moved off to his truck and opened the back door. Kent could hear Summerâs excited yell, âDana!â the moment his niece saw who it was.
âWhat would you like?â Asked an older woman at the walk-up window, alerting Kent that it was his turn to order. He placed his ice cream order while keeping the truck in his peripheral. He was really just keeping an eye on his girls.
